About our Community
As a Church in formation, we strive to share the love of Christ and the joy of His life, death, and resurrection within a community that is inclusive, affirming, and deeply rooted in the Eastern tradition. St. Thekla is a mission of the Convergent Catholic Communion, embodying the richness of Byzantine spirituality while embracing the radical hospitality at the heart of the Gospel.
We are fully committed to being icons of God’s boundless love—socially, structurally, and sacramentally. Our community is united around Christ, the beauty of Eastern Christian liturgical and spiritual traditions, and a commitment to justice and mercy. We welcome those who wrestle with deep questions, those rethinking their faith, and those seeking a new way to experience Christian community.
Though Eastern Christianity is often perceived as conservative or exclusive, it is Orthodox theology itself that informs our more open, holistic, and inclusive approach to faith. We affirm that all people bear the Image of God, and that God’s presence—God’s Divine Energies—are accessible to all. We do not believe in a God of fear, but in a God of perfect love, a love that does not discriminate, and neither should we. This conviction shapes how we interpret Scripture, approach theology, and live out our faith. The Eucharist and the Divine Mysteries are open to all who seek Christ, as we recognize God as the true giver of grace.
Being rooted in Eastern liturgical tradition, worship is central to our life together. While our mission is considered progressive, we do not shy away from traditional expressions of worship. The beauty of chant, incense, sacred iconography, and the Divine Liturgy belongs to all who seek communion with God. Eastern liturgical heritage is not reserved for the conservative; it is the inheritance of all God’s people.
The Church, as the House of God, is open to all of God’s beloved children. This mission is not just a spiritual haven for ourselves, but a sanctuary for others—a place where all can encounter the transforming love of Christ in the richness of the Eastern tradition.

Because we are a mission in formation, Divine Liturgy is currently celebrated on major feast days. In between these celebrations, we gather in other ways to foster community, spiritual growth, and theological exploration. Coffee Hour is held every two weeks on Saturdays, creating space for edification, discussion, and fellowship. We invite all—whether firm in their faith, questioning, or discerning—to worship with us in whatever capacity they feel comfortable.
Coffee Hours are held online via zoom, while our Divine Liturgy is in person and is not broadcast online.
Whether you join us for Divine Liturgy, prayer, or discussion, you are welcome here.
