Servant Leadership

Leadership in the Convergent Catholic Communion grows out of service, not status. We expect our leaders to carry themselves with humility, restraint, and steadiness. Authority here is meant to protect the flock, nurture vocations, guard the faith, and strengthen community. It is not meant to elevate personalities or create distance between leaders and the people they serve. Our bishops and council members listen before they speak, collaborate before they command, and discern before they act. They share responsibility, submit to oversight, and refuse the kind of isolation that has weakened so many movements. Their work is pastoral at its core. They guide clergy, support communities, uphold our canons, and help the Communion remain grounded in Scripture, Tradition, and the living presence of the Holy Spirit. In everything, they aim to lead with integrity, transparency, and faithfulness, because healthy leadership creates a healthy Communion.
We know many who come to us carry both devotion and disappointment. Some arrive weary from instability, shifting jurisdictions, sudden dissolutions, and leaders who operated without accountability. Others come with a genuine call, yet feel they have never received the formation, support, or community they needed to flourish. We see you. We understand the hope that drew you into sacramental ministry, and we understand the wounds that sometimes followed. What you will find here is different. Our leadership is conciliar and accountable. Our bishops serve within a system of mutual oversight; they do not stand alone, and they do not build personal empires. Clergy are formed, mentored, and accompanied. Decisions are made in community, not in the shadows. We honor the gifts you bring, but we also offer the structure and stability needed for those gifts to grow. If you are coming from the ISM with questions, hesitations, or hopes, you will find a Communion ready to walk with you at a pace that is honest, patient, and grounded in Christ.
The Presiding Bishop
The Presiding Bishop serves as the spiritual head of the Communion and Chair of the Governing Councils. This office embodies unity, continuity, and pastoral oversight.
The Presiding Bishop:
-
safeguards the apostolic faith
-
presides at major liturgical and ecclesial acts
-
represents the Communion in ecumenical relationships
-
offers pastoral care to bishops, clergy, and communities
-
serves as a stabilizing voice during times of discernment and transition
The Presiding Bishop is not a monarch. The role functions in partnership with the Bishops Council and the General Council, and always in service to the Communion.

The General Council
The General Council includes members from across the Communion. It holds administrative authority under the Constitution and Canons and functions as the primary deliberative body. The General Council:
-
adopts and revises canons
-
confirms major leadership appointments
-
discerns long-term mission and vision
-
ensures representation of the whole Communion
This ensures that governance is conciliar, not hierarchical.

Bishops Council
The Bishops Council is the collegial body of all bishops within the Communion. It provides:
• counsel and support to the Presiding Bishops
• discernment of doctrine and sacramental practice
• oversight of episcopal formation
• shared responsibility for the unity and direction of the Communion
This council prevents isolated decision-making and ensures that episcopal authority is exercised communally.
